CATHEDRAL OF THE SACRED BLESSED, USA

When San Francisco based Quarry House contacted Chesney's to supply a number of liturgical elements for the Cathedral of the Sacred Blessed in Sacramento USA, we were very excited to turn our classical expertise towards the ecclesiastical world.

The Cathedral was built in 1889 in a traditional Italian Renaissance style but unfortunately the interior was extensively modernised during the 1930s. In 2003 the Diocese decided to return the interior of the Cathedral to its original Italian Renaissance style. The total cost of the project was $34 million and New York based architects, Beyer Blinder Belle, who specialise in historic preservation, were retained for the project.

Chesney's brief was to design and manufacture the Tabernacle, High Altar and Baptistry in Statuary marble with Dark Emperador marble used for the inset panels and the columns on the High Alter and for the inset panels on the Tabernacle. Precise working drawings were submitted for consideration and approval and from which production began. A factory visit was made prior to despatch of the items to Sacramento, USA.

The Cathedral opened following full restoration in November 2005.
